Abstract

The disposal of wastes without proper collection systems leads to health hazards, economic loss, and environmental suffering. An effective solid waste management system includes an optimized routing system for the collection and transport of solid wastes. This paper describes the use of GIS (Geographic Information System) to optimize solid waste collection and routing systems and introduces integration of segregation for Phuentsholing Municipality. The study uses information gathered through questionnaires, waste generation rates, locations, and volumes of storage bins, collection vehicles, etc. The suggestions for amendments in the system through the study would exhibit remedies for solid waste management problems like adoption of segregation, proper allocation of waste bins and their proximity convenience, proper collection, and route scheduling.
