Abstract

There is an increasing trend in the number of vehicles in cities like Thimphu and Phuentsholing annually. Traffic congestion and bottlenecks remain the major concerns due to the presence of vehicles in the cities. The vehicles often stray while searching for parking spaces in the towns. Moreover, high fuel consumption, time wastage, and air pollution are significant issues caused by vehicles roaming around in search of parking, especially during peak hours. To address this problem, there is a need for a system that provides real-time parking availability information to users in the city. On the other hand, advancements in technology such as smartphones and mobile applications have made our lives easier and faster, particularly with the use of IoT (Internet of Things). Therefore, this paper proposes an Android application, which is used to implement a prototype of an "eParking" app. This app allows drivers to effectively find vacant parking spaces remotely using their mobile devices.
